Vote Better: On Paper

And by paper, I mean money.

For some weird reason the economy has leaped back to the top of everybody’s issues list this week, so today’s Vote Better is gonna be about the candidates’ economic policies, specifically their tax plans. This is a graph that started making the rounds of the blogosphere yesterday:

Goofus and Gallant

Goofus and Gallant

As you can see, McCain cuts everybody’s taxes, but the cuts are negligible for 60% of the population and get better the richer you are. Under Obama’s plan, taxes go up on anybody making over $600,000 a year (the wealthiest 1% of the population by income) and that same middle/bottom 60% of the population gets better tax breaks than McCain offers.

But like LeVar Burton used to say, don’t take my word for it.  You can see McCain and Obama’s latest ads on the economic crisis here.  Matt Yglesias makes a good point about the state of the economy here.
